OVERBROOK HIGH SCHOOL

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA, PA

RENOVATIONS FOR NEW MEDIA ARTS PROGRAM

Overbrook High School, originally constructed in 1924, was in need of technological modernization. At the request of the School District of Philadelphia, GKO Architects designed a new Digital Media Lab that would accommodate 24 students. The lab serves as the schools central technology hub, and provides specialized resources for print and digital media.

The design utilizes flexible spaces to encourage exploration, and allows for the lab to adapt to new trends in research and education. Spaces in the lab include an Instructional Space, Computer Lab, Audio Studio, Digital Music Studio, Video Studio, and corresponding secure storage spaces.

Two existing classrooms were renovated to make way for the new facility. The 1st floor location and proximity to the School's entrance enables easy access for guest musicians and industry technicians to lead special workshops with students.
