VILLA MARIA ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL - STUDENT UNION BUILDING
MALVERN, PA
NEW CONSTRUCTION
This project consisted of the construction of a new 16,500 SF Student Union Building. The Student Union Building included a dining hall, kitchen, faculty dining room, chapel, guidance suite, infirmary, main office, principal office, learning common, and small conference room.
The floor plan was designed with the Cafeteria, Building Entry / Main Office, and Chapel featured on the front (South side of the Building). In combination with a raised terrace, the building’s massing provides an impressive frontal image toward Central Avenue.
Since significant parking expansion was proposed on the back side of the New Building, the Student Commons, Board, and Faculty Dining Rooms were carefully situated adjacent to relocated Italian Garden. Expanding the existing rear parking lot avoided the need to construct expensive retaining walls to deal with the adjacent steep-slope topography. In addition, the expanded lot was configured to avoid the need for demolishing the existing maintenance garage building.
